Ben Kots passed away at his home on Sunday, April 28, at the age of 80 years, 7 months and 15 days. His death was due mainly to his old age. He had been confined to his bed for the past 23 weeks. He was last of 3 brothers.
He was born September 13, 1860 in Aalten, Gelderland.
At the age of 23, in 1882, he came to America with his brother William. The first summer he worked for the late Henry Mensink and then farmed south of Orange City. Then he farmed southeast of Maurice till he moved to town in 1914.
In September, 1892 he married Ella Kramer. He served as a deacon in the consistory of the First Reformed church for 30 years.
He is survived by his widow and five children: Gerrit, Henry, Mrs. Lou Holbersma of Woodstock, Minn., Mrs. Martin Holbersma of Leota, Minn., and John. Also 39 grandchildren and 1 great grandchild and four sisters, Mrs. Gerrit Grotenhuis, Mrs. Gerrit Fiske, Mrs. Arie Punt of Orange City and Mrs. Dick Schuller. One sister, Dora, died their first year in America.
The funeral was held Wednesday afternoon at 1 o'clock at the home and 1:30 at the First Reformed church with Rev. Mr. J. Roggen in charge.
