Jose Merced, a lifelong resident of Santa Cruz, passed away at the family home. He was predeceased by parents Marcos and Benigna V. Quintana.

Merced was survived by his wife Petra; 9 children: Angie Torres of Albuquerque, Leo of Alcalde, Prescilla Quintana of the home, Sally Maestas of Chamita, Viola Maestas of Pueblo, Colorado; Jose M. "Joe G" of the home; Carmen Montoya of Santa Cruz, Connie Apodaca, and Roberta Manzanares of Medanales; granddaughter he raised Rachel George of Arroyo Seco; brother Marcos of Santo Niño; 29 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; and many other relatives.

Merced was a member of La Confradia de Santismo Sagrada Familia de Fairview and active member of the Holy Cross Parish.
