Greenville (Texas) Evening Banner, Thu, 9 Feb 1922, page 8, FUNERAL SERVICES HELD TODAY FOR MRS. M.T. SUMMERS

Funeral services for Mrs. Mollie T. Summers, aged 74, who died at the family home, 4015 Stuart street, at 12:05 o’clock this morning, were held at the home at 4 o’clock this afternoon, conducted by Reverend A.A. Duncan of the First Baptist Church, assisted by Reverend E.L. Egger of the Kavanaugh Methodist Church and Reverend G.B. Carter of Lee Street Methodist Church. Interment followed at East Mount Cemetery.

The death of Mrs. Summers comes as a distinct shock to her many friends and acquaintances in this city.

Stricken by an attack of apoplexy yesterday, she lived only a few hours. She had been an invalid for the past three years, but through this trying ordeal she maintained the same sweet lovable and cheerful disposition that was characteristic of her.

Mrs. Summers was born Dec. 14, 1847, at Lewisburg, Tenn., and came to Texas with her parents when she was 12 years of age, in 1859. She was united in marriage March 19, 1865, to Thomas J. Summers. To this union four children were born, two of whom preceded their mother in death. The husband and father, Thomas J. Summers, died in this city Feb. 13, 1907. Deceased is survived by two children, Miss Mable Summers of this city, and a son, J.A. Summers of Corpus Christi.

Mrs. Summers had been a resident of this city for many years. A few years after her marriage the family moved to Corsicana, where they resided for some time. In 1884 the family returned to this city, where they have made their home since. She was a lovable, Christian character and ever lived a consistent and devoted Christian life. In the home, in the church, in social circles – wherever she went – her life was felt and an impress for the nobler, higher life was made upon all with whom she came in contact.

For the past several years Mrs. Summers had made her home with her daughter, Miss Mable Summers, the present tax collector of Hunt County. Early in life she had made a profession of religion and united with the Methodist Episcopal Church and at the time of her death was a faithful member of Kavanaugh Church, where she worshiped for many years.

Active pallbearers were Gilbert Shipp, Marvin Wood, Vernie Runnion, John English, Henry Nix and James Bassett. Honorary pall bearers were Justin Burt, E.P. Thomas, W.B. Wise, W.J. Schenck, G.L. Rutherford, W.H. James, J.A. Phillips, C.M. Dollins, Frank Wolfe, Dr. J.H. French, Dr. W.M. Dickens, Dr. M .L. Wilbanks and Dr. J.F. Clark.
