Garry Bettinger, a lifelong resident of the Lum district, Town of Ellisburg, died April 21, 1953 at his home. He had been in failing health for about a year and death resulted from a heart condition.

The funeral will take place at 2 p.m. Friday at Watson & Woodard's funeral home in Sandy Creek, with Rev. Barber L. Waters, pastor of at Syracuse Methodist church, officiating. Burial will be in Woodlawn Cemetery, Sandy Creek. Bearers will be Howard Worden of Syracuse, Ralph Christopher of Rochester, Stanley Chapman of Sackets Harbor, and Fred Kastler, (Glenn LeClair and Donald Clark.

Mr. Bettinger was 88, having been born November 30, 1864 in the southern part of the town of Ellisburg, the son of Philetus and Celia Ehle Bettinger. He attended Ellisburg district schools, and on January 28, 1914 was married at Ellisburg to Miss. Elsie Greenwood, the ceremony having been performed by Rev. B. A. Walton.

He was a retired farmer, having always lived in this vicinity, and was well known as a trainer and dealer in fine road horses, having been associated with the Sam Bridge stables of Pittsfield Mass. for several years. Mr. Bettinger was one of the founders of the Goodenough Methodist church. He was a Golden Sheath (50 year) member of Mannsville Grange and a member df the Farm Bureau.

He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Elsie Bettinger, and two sons, Harold and Ralph, of Ellisburg, and by four grandchildren. An only brother, Jay Bettinger, died September 13, 1952.
