Lucretia Duncan married Ishmael H. Smith and they had at least 11 children.

Lucretia M. Smith was found in the 1900 U.S. Census, Magisterial District 2, Barren county, Kentucky, head of household, a 72 year old widow. The census stated she was the mother of eleven children, nine of whom were living on 2 June 1900. Besides five children living in her home was Neil Childress, age 23, a grandson. There were also two boarders working as laborers and one black servant living in the home. Lucretia owned a farm free of a mortgage and she could read and write. This census stated that both her parents were born in Virginia.

At the time of the 1910 U.S. Census for Magisterial District 2, part of Tracy, Barren county, Kentucky, Lucretia, a 82-year-old widow was living with her unmarried son John and three of his siblings. Amsie Childress, a nephew of Johns was also living in the home. She was listed as the mother of eleven, nine still living as of the enumeration date of 29 April 1910.
