Salt Lake City, UT-Aileen Lyon Tate passed away of natural causes at her home in Salt Lake City Utah on the 17th day of August, 2012 at the age of 96.
She spent her life in the service of others, most notably as a wonderful wife and mother, a great missionary and an inspiring teacher. She was born April 22, 1916 in Overton, Nevada, the daughter of Warren Harvey Lyon and Hannah McLachlan Lyon. She was the last surviving member of her family consisting of Mary Miles, Margaret Nuttall, W. Mack Lyon, and Harlan Lyon. She was educated at Dixie College and Brigham Young University, where she met her husband, Ralph Richards Tate. They were married in the Salt Lake Temple on November 12, 1937. They became the parents of six children. Together they served as missionaries for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Canada(Toronto), West Africa, Ireland, Antigua (West Indies), New Zealand (South) and in the Hawaiian Temple.
She enjoyed studying the gospel of Jesus Christ and was noted for her skills as an outstanding teacher. She joins her husband and son Gerald Lyon Tate, and a granddaughter in the spirit world. She is survived by her other five children: Charlene Tate Leach (William-deceased), Ralph Richards Tate, Jr. (Susan), Monty Tate (Eileen), Julie Ann Tate Perkins (DeLos) and David Brent Tate (Miriam). Her posterity includes 41 grandchildren and 93 great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at the Valley View Stake Center 2245 East 3900 South on Wednesday, August 22nd at 12:00 noon. A viewing will be held at Wasatch Lawn Mortuary, 3401 South Highland Drive on Tuesday, August 21st from 6-8 p.m.and at the chapel from 10:30-11:30 a.m. before the funeral service. The family expresses their sincere appreciation for the loving friendship for over fifty years of the members of the Valley View 7th Ward and for those family members and medical professionals who have cared so diligently and compassionately for her in recent months.
