Annie originally had a very happy childhood in rural Collin County, Texas and Springer, Oklahoma with her mother, father, and 6 siblings. However, her mother died of an illness at the young age of 31 in 1891. Her mother's nurse became her step mother. Her step mother was extremely cruel and treated Annie and her siblings badly. One day, when the step mother and Annie's father were going to the store, the step mother told Annie that she better not be there when they came back home. So, Annie left. She walked for miles, across the county line even. A couple saw Annie crying and walking outside, and invited her in. The couple tried to find at least one relative of Annie's she could go live with. They found her maternal uncle, Tommy Cartwright. Annie lived with Tommy and his family until she met Albert Martin. He was the love of her life. Annie and Albert were married in 1898. Once married, she felt the same amount of happiness she had as a child. They had a blissful marriage that produced 6 children: Stella, Dale, Ralph, Ray, Emma, and Minnie. Albert died in 1955, devastating Annie. She died not long after, on October 6, 1955 at the age of 75. Many family members say she died from a broken heart. She and her story will always be remembered in our family. Rest In Peace Aunt Annie
