Jesse H. Cripe, 83, whose wife is the former Claudine Mounsey of Bluffton, died July 5 at Fort Walton Beach Medical Center in Florida.
Mr. Cripe was a technical director in television broadcasting. After working for General Electric in Schenectady, N.Y., he began his career in television broadcasting at WTVJ-TV in Miami, Fla.. He moved to Jacksonville, Fla., to become general manager of WFGA-TV, pioneering in coverage of the early space program at Cape Canaveral. He managed WUFT-TV at the University of Florida and then worked for NBC in New York City as a technical coordinator for special events. He retired to Dunnellon, Fla., and served there as an elder of the Presbyterian Church and was active in the Ocala Amateur Radio Club. In 1997, he and his wife of 58 years moved to Fort Walton Beach, Fla., to be closer to their family.
Born in Goshen, Ind., July 12, 1918 to Alvin B. and Leona Huber Cripe, he earned a degree in electrical engineering from Purdue University.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by a son, Claude Richard of Pensacola, Fla.; a daughter, Mrs. Bill (Barbara) Maques of Mary Esther, Fla.; three grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
A graveside service will be conducted at 12 noon Friday, July 19, at the West Goshen Cemetery at Goshen, Ind. Rev. Alan Griffin will officiate.
Memorials to the American Heart Association or to the American Lung Association of Florida. Arrangements are by Yoder-Culp Funeral Home in Goshen.
