Opal Ruth (Bowen) Brown, a longtime resident of Decatur, passed away August 17, 2012 at St. Vincent's Hospice Center in Indianapolis. She was 86 years old.

Born on November 15, 1925 the daughter of Aaron and Zelma Bowen, she resided in rural Union township most of her adult life.

Opal married Herman Don Brown on December 14, 1944, who preceded her in death in 2007.

Opal worked many years at the Schaffer Company in Decatur. She was a member of the East Liberty United Methodist Church rural Monroeville, Indiana where she served as their accomplished pianist for many years.

Survivors include sons James (Coe Anne) Brown of Zionsville, IN and Jerry (Debbie) Brown of Indianapolis, IN; four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. One brother, Chester preceded her in death.

Funeral services will be Wednesday, August 22, 2012 in the East Liberty United Methodist Church at 11:30 a.m. with calling at the church starting at 10:00 a.m. and burial in the Monroeville Memorial Cemetery. Officiating the service will be Rev. Robert Klingle.

Preferred memorials are to the East Liberty United Methodist Church.

Arrangements are being handled by Zwick and Jahn Funeral Home, Decatur, Indiana.
