Mrs. Grote was born Dec. 27, 1926, in Fredericksburg, the daughter of Eugene B. Schmidt and Selma Rech Schmidt. She married Carlos A. Grote on Sept. 13, 1945, in Fredericksburg. He preceded her in death.
A Fredericksburg High School graduate, Mrs. Grote continued her education and earned a degree in homemaking.
During World War II, she worked in a sewing factory, helping to make military uniforms.
After marriage, she and her husband moved to their home on the Grote Ranch in Blanco County where they lived and ranched for almost 60 years.
She was active at Edison Street Methodist Church and Fredericksburg United Methodist Church and in the youth ministry for many years.
She was also a long-time member of the Willow City Volunteer Fire Department Ladies' Auxiliary."
