It is with a heavy heart that we announce the passing of a dear friend, husband, father, grandfather, brother and avid Utah State Athletics supporter. Mark Chappell was born on August 5, 1955. Had it not been for the keen eye of his loving mother, Rayda Bishop Chappell, who noticed that the baby given to her at the hospital was not her Mark and been adamant they bring her son, we would not have had the pleasure and joy in sharing in his momentous life!
Mark enjoyed nothing more than the pleasure of his family, the service and dedication he performed for his community and the delight that came with spending time with his grandchildren, Connor (8) & Cecelia Jo (2).
After a successful and fulfilling LDS mission in Sydney, Australia, Mark enrolled in college in Logan, Utah. As a student at Utah State University, he worked as a stage builder for the Caine Lyric Theater. It was during his college years that he met the love of his life and the one he devoted himself to for eternity, Julie Ann Italasano. A roommate of Julie's told her that she must attend a ward basketball game to check out the legs of this guy named Mark Chappell.
Whether it was those lengthy tan legs, or his quick, witty charm, big heart and desire to enrich the lives of those around him, Mark & Julie fell deeply in love and were sealed in the LDS temple on September 8, 1978.
Mark accomplished many things, but his life was about the joy he brought to people, the beauty that he found in his home and in the community, and the generosity he had shown to so many.
Like his own father, Aldus D. Chappell, Mark was an inspiring teacher. His brilliant, alert and inquiring mind enabled him both in his profession and in his many callings with The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
But most of all, Mark loved his wife of 35 glorious years, Julie. His life was a tribute to that love. His children and grandchildren are a testament to that love.
Mark's big smile, colossal heart, his simple generosity and his laughter will be missed. He was a man who never lost sight of what life is truly about. The relationships he forged in this life will only be strengthened in the next.
I am very proud and humbled to be the son of this most magnificent man. Survived by his wife, Julie; son, Brian (Courtney), New York; daughter, Nicole (Darin) Lewis, West Valley City, and grandchildren. Preceded in death by his parents.
Funeral Services will be held Monday, August 20, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. at the Hunter 12th Ward, 7035 W. Loch Ness Ave. The family will receive friends at a visitation Sunday evening from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. at Valley View Funeral Home, 4335 W. 4100 S., and from 9:45 to 10:45 a.m. prior to the service at the Ward. Interment: Valley View Memorial Park.
In lieu of flowers, please attend a Utah State Game. GO AGGIES!
