POUNDING MILL, Va. – Mr. James Harvey Ball, age 84, passed away Thursday, Sept. 23, 2004, in a Chilhowie health care facility, following a lengthy illness.

Born in Russell County, Va., he was the son of the late Thomas and Dora Crawford Ball. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II and a member of John Ratliff Post 164. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Eunice Levania Keen Ball; one daughter, Dora Ann Ball Rollins; one half-sister, Polly Margaret Ball; and one half-brother, Morris Clark. He was the last surviving member of his immediate family in his generation.

He is survived by two daughters, Kathy Dawn Lester and husband Teddy of Abingdon, Mary Lou Stacy and husband Jeff of Paint Lick; two sons, Donald Richard Ball and wife Peggy Lee of Abingdon, Darrell Wayne Ball and wife Gwen of Paint Lick; seven grandchildren; special care giver, Mary Reynolds, and the staff of the Valley Health Care Center also survive.

Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 25, 2004, at Singleton Funeral Service Chapel in Cedar Bluff, with Rev. Monroe Greeley officiating. Burial will follow at the Antioch Cemetery at Keen Mountain. Military graveside rites will be conducted by John Ratliff Post 164. Pallbearers will be Danny Johnson, Chester Rowe, Lewis Addison, Allen Addison, Gordon Looney and Dean Fields.

The family will receive friends 6 to 9 Friday at Singleton Funeral Service in Cedar Bluff.
