Wounded in right leg, resulting in amputation, 2d Manassas, Va. August 30, 1862. Captured, Keedysville, Md. June 23, 1863. Paroled, Johnson's Island, O. and transferred to City Point, Va. for exchange May 1, 1864. On detail duty, in charge of Ordnance Dept. at Augusta, Ga., November 1864 to close of war. Elected Comptroller General of Ga. in 1880.

General William A. Wright, 85-year-old veteran of the War between the States, and for half a century comptroller-general of Georgia, is dead. His passing last night after the strain of the recent Legislature, took from the State the official who held office longer than any man ever to submit his name to the vote of the people.
General Wright became ill at the close of the 1929 session of the Georgia General Assembly, several weeks ago. His condition was diagnosed as a partial nervous breakdown due to the strenuous requirements of the Legislative business, and at first was regarded with no alarm. His advanced age was against him, however, and he failed to rally. His family was at the bedside when he died.
