David Howard Vanderpool was born in Ray County, Missouri, Feb 17, 1827. He was married April 18, 1847 to Cyrene C. Vanderpool, who still survives him. In 1852, they moved to Oregon across the plains, settling in Clackamas County and remaining until the fall of 1861. They then moved to Polk County remaining until 1863 when they again moved to Benton County to the home they have lived in ever since. He was converted and united with the North Palestine Baptist Church in 1865 and remained a consistent member until 1891 when he was granted a letter by the church which he hid to the time of his death, July 23, 1899. In 1886, he was elected as a representative of Benton County to the State Legislature and served one term. He was taken sick in January 1898, and has been under a doctor's care most of the time since. On July 28, '98, an operation was performed removing a foot which no doubt prolonged his life almost a year. He was the father of nine children, of whom only three sons survive him, Kinman, Avert and David, all being with him continuously through his long illness. He also leaves one brother and three sisters: C. M. Vanderpool, of Wells, Benton Co.; Mrs. Fowler of Kings Valley, Benton Co.; Mrs. Campbell of Kansas City, Kansas; Mrs. Inman of Clackamas Co., Oregon. There is also a half brother and sister, William M. Vanderpool of Prineville, Oregon and Martha Guliford of Dufur, Oregon. There is only one grandchild, Mrs. Julia Douty of Independence, Oregon.
