Perman D. Henderson was born September 19, 1801 in Greene County, Tennessee; Perman was married on December 25, 1821 in Lexington, Lafayette County, Missouri, to Sarah Trapp, the daughter of Martin Trapp and Jemima Dodson.

Perman was credited with "platting" the village of Rushville, Missouri with his brother-in-law, John Allison (husband of Dicey Trapp, sister to Sarah Trapp, wife of Perman). Perman and Sarah moved to Buchanan County, Missouri when it was opened for settlement by the Platte Purchase. They arrived in Oregon on September 20, 1853 where they received Oregon Land Donation Claims Certificate #44583.

Perman sold his farm in Corvallis along with his brother-in-law Charlie Johnson (widowed husband of Keziah Trapp), Charlie’s son-in-law Frederick Horning to John Trapp (brother of Sarah, Keziah and Dicey) and his committee in 1856 that was commissioned in the Oregon Territory to build a college. The college started in 1856 as Corvallis Academy, then in 1868 it became Oregon State Agricultural College, and now it is known as Oregon State University.
