Photographer belonging to the Magnum Photos Cooperative Agency. She grew up in the United States, where began her training that expanded in England before studying art history in Madrid and at Paris's Ecole du Louvre. She worked at the agency Vu, and also founded the Viva agency, and she practiced a photograph of classic, very involved in the human tragedies in the second half of the twentieth century, in Asia and other continents. She joined the Magnum agency in 1983, and authored half a dozen books of photography of compulsory reference. One of her specialties were the portraits of artists, and she snapped a number of foreign artists creators as Miquel Barceló, Leonor Fini, Zao Wou Ki, Marc Chagall and Fernando Botero, among others. She was the second wife of famed photographer Henri Cartier-Bresson, whom she married in 1970, and was instrumental in preserving her husband's legacy by setting up the Henri Cartier-Bresson Foundation in 2002.
