LEWISTON - Verna C. Bowie, 83, of 521 Riverside Drive, Auburn, died Saturday shortly after arrival at Central Maine Medical Center. Born in Durham Oct. 29, 1911, teh daughter of George and Sarah Goddard Crockett, she graduated from Lisbon High School in 1929 and teh Farmington Normal School. She was married to Kenneth Bowie, who died April 2, 1990. Mrs. Bowie was employed in farming, the shoe industry, and drove a school bus for one room school houses in the town of Durham. she retired in 1943. She was a member of Durham Friends Meeting Church, A.A.E.P. and a 54-year member of teh Pine Tree Grange Survivors. She is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Everett (Alberta) Cloar of Salrey, N.J. and MRs. Franklin (Cynthia B.) Hunnewell of Durham; one son, Calvin L. Bowie of Auburn; one sister, Mrs. Geraldine Lachance of Westrbook; and two brothers, Forrest Crockett and Virgil Crockett of Maryland. She also leaves behine 12 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
