Mrs. Martha Ella Bridges of Rutherford College died in a Valdese Hospital at 10:20 pm Tuesday following an illness of a year and a half, and ten days of hospitalization. She was 84.
Funeral services will be help at 4:00 pm Thursday at the home with the Rev. B.R. Holbrook of Hildebran, the Rev. Wilfred Lyerly of Salisbury, the Rev. A.C. Kennedy of Rutherford College, and the Rev. Mr. Robinson, also of Rutherford College, participating.
Burial will be in the First Baptist Church Cemetery, Hildebran. The body will be taken from the residence from the Valdese Funeral Home at 9:00 am Thursday.
Mrs. Bridges was born in Burke County, Oct 2, 1872, a daughter of the late William and Emma Winkler Abernethy. Surviving are 4 sons, Ernest of Seven Springs, NC, Posey of Hildebran, Howard of Hickory, and Fletcher of Valdese; one daughter, Miss Corrie Bridges of the home; one sister, Mrs. Eugene Johnson of Hildebran; two brothers, Murph Abernethey of Hildebran and Fred Abernethy of Belvoir, VA; eleven grandchildren and seven great-gandchildren.
