Horticulturist Landscape Designer. Mark moved to southern California with his family in 1964, where he lived for 40 years. He graduated from Vista High School in 1978 and went on to pursue his love for nature by studying and receiving degrees in horticulture, landscape design and architecture. He operated his own business as a master landscaper and custom architect designer contractor. Besides his interest in nature and building, he was also an accomplished surfer, wrote poetry and was a professional model for Thousand Mile, a worldwide established clothing industry in Carlsbad, California. Through his good looks, positive attitude, knowledge of nature and the skill of his crafts he touched all who knew him with the kindness of his heart. His most generous gift was that of sharing his time to help anyone and everyone around him. Mark passed away of unknown causes in his sleep at age 44. He is preceded in death by his father John William Doby and grandparents Hugh and Juno (Grimmett) Monsen and William Jackson and Alta Lucille (Porter) Doby. His parents Mike and Ann McClure, sister Valerie Doby, nephew Teddy Doby Martinez and brother Chris M. McClure survive him along with numerous Aunts, Uncles, Cousins and dear friends. On Sunday, October 3, 2004, the day after his funeral and interment services, a surf paddle out was staged in his honor at Terra Mar Beach in Carlsbad, California. Family and friends paid their respects from the cliff over the sea as surfers paddled out to the wave break, circled and placed flower leis in the water to Mark's memory.

We grew up in a tight knit neighbor hood since the early 1960's and to this day their is approximately twenty dear friends, more like family.

In January of 2005 a group of Marks dearest of friends had a park bench put up in a park in Carlsbad, CA. near Terra Mar Beach where Mark loved to surf and where the paddle out was held in Marks memory. See photos to the left. The Park is located on the corner of Cannon and Tamarack in Carlsbad, CA.

Mark loved to write poems he took after our grand mother Juno Monsen. Here is one of Mark's poems that he had written in 1999.

To return home is surely a bliss
For there is no other place like this.
Void of pain and free from doubt
This is Heaven, there can be no doubt.
My coming home rejoiced by all
Years since I've seen them, they wave and they call.
Streams of love and compassion flow
Peace and Harmony, the status quo.
To return here, is surely a bliss
For there is no other place like this.
