Death of Edgar Harding.
Edgar Harding, president of the Whitman and Manomet mills, New Bedford, and senior member of Harding, Whitman & Co., commission merchants, 78 Chauncy street, prominent in yachting circles and member of noted Boston clubs, died very suddenly at his home, 324 Beacon street Boston, Saturday night of heart trouble. He had just returned, from a week's business trip in the west and was sitting in a chair, talking with members of his family, apparently in the very best of health, when, with no warning, he expired.
Mr. Harding had for the major portion of his life made his home in or near Boston. He was born near the city just before his family moved to Vermont. They lived in Cambridge many years. The firm of which he was the head was started by his father and was formerly known as Harding, Colby & Co.
Mr. Harding had always a great love for yachting, as have all his family. He had a house at Marblehead Neck and was a member of the Eastern, Beverly and other yacht clubs. He was also enrolled in the Wamsutta club of New Bedford, Algonquin, Union and other clubs in Boston.
A wife and five children survive him. Of the children three are married—Charles Harding of Dedham, J. R. Harding of Brookline and Mrs. S. Boyer Davis of Philadelphia. Two unmarried children, Priscilla and Marston, live at the family residence. The family has also a handsome summer residence at Penzance in this village, where they spent the past season.
The funeral was held at the home on Beacon street Tuesday noon, Rev. Elwood Worcester , of the Emmanuel church, Newbury street, officiating. Interment was at Mt. Auburn.
