Luigi a/k/a Louis Anthony Bimonte was the son of Italian immigrants, Antonio a/k/a Anthony Bimonte, born June 5, 1889 in Naples, Italy and Ida Mazzone-Bimonte, born in Italy in 1892. His parents were married on December 7, 1913 in Bronx, New York.

Louis was known as Gene to his family and friends. His name in Italian is Luigi. He was nicknamed Gene by his family because of the way his mother pronounced his name in Italian. She would call him "Louiegene", so the "Gene" part stuck with family and friends.

Gene served stateside in the United States Army as a Private First Class during World War II from December 11, 1942 until January 6, 1945.

On September 23, 1945, he married his sweetheart of three years, Maria Antonia a/k/a Antoinette Marie or Anne Fariello in the Bronx. Gene was married to beloved Anne for 43 years.
