Born in Preston Nova Scotia, Rev. Thomas Smith Webb Mott was a highly educated an often outspoken man. He received his eduction at Andover Newton Theological School in Newton Mass.and was heavly involved in church politics. He was a rector up and down the East Coast. He was the Rector at St Luke's Episcopal Church in Lincolnton, NC on two separate occasions. He is buried there, along with his wife, Susan Amanda Phillips, who preceeded him in death. He was also the editor of The Church Intelligencer from 1860-1864 when due to ill health he retired to his home.
