Enlisted as a private in the 3d Michigan Infantry on 13 May 1861. Promoted to Hospital Steward on 10 June 1861. Promoted to Assistant Surgeon on 1 August 1862. Mustered out on 14 June 1864. Photo of Dr. Morrison as an Assistant Surgeon with rank of 1st Lieutenant.

The Boston Globe, Saturday, March 6, 1875 (3rd-listed marriage). His wife, Sarah Cornelia (Buttrick) Barnes, later changed her name to Florence Bacon. First wife, Hattie E. Moore, passed away in 1871. Wed third wife, Mary E. Bates, on Oct. 3, 1893.
