Although there is no stone for James Madison Hite (1793 - 1860), he specified in his will that "I desire my remains to be placed in a metalic coffin and burried in the family graveyard at long meadows near my beloved parents." In her book "Hite Family Homesteads, Neckar to Shenandoah", Elizabeth Madison Coles Umstattd notes that "During the Civil War, federal troops camped on and around the property, destroying nearly every grave marker."
