Son of Lynn Ernest Ritter, Sr., who was the Lewes Chief of Police, and Amelia L. Rogers Ritter. Older brother of Grace Ritter Lafferty and Grandson of Frederic and Sadie Ritter.

Lynn, who resided at 444 State Street, Lewes, Delaware, served as a Private First Class in Company A, 310th Medical Corps, 85th Infantry Division (Custer Division), 5th U.S. Army, U.S. Army during World War II.

He enlisted in the Army on June 22, 1943 in Camden, New Jersey. He was noted as Single, without dependents.

He was "Killed In Action" near Rome, Italy by a land mine while picking up wounded soldiers in his Jeep during the war.
