Rebecca (Becky) Basford Whitley, 93, passed away peacefully August 13, 2012 at Northeast Florida Community Hospice. Becky was born January 28, 1919 in Loganville, Georgia to Isaac and Cora Lou Thomas. Her family moved to Jacksonville in 1926.

She was a charter member of Murray Hill Baptist Church and was also a member of First Baptist Church in Starke and Shindler Road Baptist. Becky loved flowers and was a member of the Jacksonville Garden Club and was past President of Montbretia Circle. She Lived in Bradford County for several years and volunteered at the Bradford Hospital Auxiliary. She was also a member of the Women's Club and President of the Women's Union. She returned to Jacksonville in 1999 to be closer to her family.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 43 years Afton (A.C.) Basford. Survivors include her children Bobby Basford of Woodstock, GA, Janet Adams of Starke. FL, Wesley (Lorna) Basford, and Nancy (Gary) Peacock of Jacksonville, FL.; one sister Martha Allen; one brother Henry Thomas; six grandchildren; and seven great grandchildren.

Family will receive friends and family Wednesday, August 15, 2012 from 5:00 - 8:00 pm at Hardage- Giddens Town & Country Funeral Home, 7242 Normandy Blvd, Jacksonville, FL. Funeral Services will be held 11:00 am, Thursday, August 16, 2012 at the funeral home. Interment will follow services at Riverside Memorial Park.
