Nita Watterson
1916 ~ 2012
Nita Jensen Watterson, age 95 passed away Sat. Aug. 11, 2012 painlessly and peacefully in the home she had so lovingly cared for the last 60 years. Nita was born to Bert Ellis and Annie Smith Jensen on Oct. 23, 1916 in Hyrum Utah. She was the second of six children. Nita loved growing up in Hyrum where she knew everyone and was a descendant of Jens Peter Jensen, one of Hyrum's original settlers. Like many of her generation she learned the value of honesty, hard work, and family, traits she taught to her family. Nita met her future husband Woodrow Biggs Watterson from Logan at the Elite Dance Hall in Hyrum. They were married June 11, 1937 in the Salt Lake Temple. They enjoyed 66 years together before Woodrow's passing in 2003. Their union produced five children: Judy (Jim) Harris, Woodrow Lynn (Grace) Watterson, Joy (Jim) Crismon, Steven (Connie) Watterson, Susan (Roger) Baldwin, with 23 Grandchildren and 42 Great-grandchildren. Mom made our house a home, always beautifully cared for, full of love, laughter, and the smell of good food and baking bread. She loved her posterity and played on the floor with her grandchildren into her early 90's. She served faithfully in the Primary and Relief Society and served with Woody for 5 years at the Jordan River Temple. She worked hard on her family's genealogy and had a strong testimony of the Prophet Joseph Smith and the Restored Gospel of Jesus Christ. Nita was an intelligent, spiritual and talented woman who put aside her personal ambitions until her family was raised, then found time to develop her talent in oil painting. She produced many beautiful paintings that she gave to her family. She and dad were two of the greatest that "the greatest generation" had to offer. She was preceded in death by parents, siblings Zelma Payne, Beth Coon, Claine & Eldon Jensen, grandson Scotty Smith. She is survived by her 5 children and her sister Gladys Seamons. A special thanks to David Baldwin, Michaela Herbert and Good Shepherd Hospice for their loving care of Nita. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, August 15, 2012 at the Mount Jordan 1st Ward, 8950 South 400 East, Sandy, Utah. Friends may call from 6-8 p.m. on Tuesday evening at Goff Mortuary, 8090 S. State Street, Midvale, Utah and at the church 1 hour prior to the services. Interment, Sandy City Cemetery.
