He was born on Nov. 30, 1923, in Harrisburg to the late Harley and Zedith (Dowdy) Griffith.
Mr. Griffith was an Army Sgt. during World War II and a burner-fitter and a former bread wrapper for Pankey's Bakery for many years.
Surviving are two sons, Dwight E. "Gene" Griffith Jr. and Carl Dennis and wife, Tina Griffith of Herod; a brother, Wendell and wife, Mary Lou Griffith of Godley; his ex-wife, Edwarda Griffith of Harrisburg; four grandchildren, Christina and Jason Calkins, and Terry Griffith, all of Harrisburg, Angie Griffith of Herod; a great-granddaughter, Kaitlin Griffith of Harrisburg; nieces and nephews, Linda and Rich Romo of Godley, Sandy and Tim Aktabowski of Aurora; great-niece, Crystal Romo of Godley; and a great-nephew, Carter Aktabowski of Aurora; and a special friend, Angel Wolak of Harrisburg.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Kenneth Griffith.
Services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at Reed Funeral Chapel in Harrisburg, where friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday. The Rev. Earl Vaughn will officiate. Burial will be in Sunset Lawn Cemetery at Harrisburg with military rites by the Harrisburg and Carrier Mills American Legion.
