Billy Paul Deason, age 81, passed away Monday, August 13, 2012. Services will be held at 11AM Thursday, August 16, at the chapel of Moores Funeral Home with Rev. Kim Jeanes and Rev. Nathan Adams officiating. Burial with Masonic Graveside Rites and Military Honors will be held at Mt. Nebo Cemetery in Wilkinson County.

Mr. Deason was born in Wilkinson County, he was next to the youngest of eight children of Charlie Rayford Deason and Maude Bell Stinson Deason. As a child he enjoyed exploring the swamps of Wilkinson County where he fished, and would go swimming with his brothers. Even as a young boy he had an interest in the outdoors, and would help his father with the gardening. He served his country during the Korean War while in the Army as a combat engineer, where he helped build air strips, bridges, and road ways for our troops. After returning back to the United States, he married and became the proud father of two daughters. He was a great person and a hard worker for these reasons and many others. He is the patriarch of our family and provided strong Christian beliefs. He emphasized the importance of education, and was a teacher to not only his children, but grandchildren as well. He was a great role model for many, and taught his family how to enjoy life and live within your means. He continued his career as a heavy equipment operator with the Local 926 Union for many years. A man of great character, he became a Master Mason, York Rite, and Scottish Rite. He ended his career as a Skilled Craftsman with Central State Hospital in Milledgeville. After retirement he enjoyed tending to his farm in Wilkinson County, and spending time with his family, and especially his grandchildren.

Including his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife Vera Brassel Deason, a daughter Sharon Deason, brothers and sisters, Charles Mike Deason, Rufus Deason, Wendell Deason, William Deason, Orene Deason Hale, Annie Clyde Klein and Eloise Snellgrove.

Survivors include a daughter Paula Deason Russ (Fiancé John Mark Childree) of Milledgeville, step-daughters Gloria Newsome (David) of Milledgeville, Susan Fischer (Bill) of Otto, NC , a step-son Thomas Raley of Milledgeville, grandchildren: Lily Katie Russ, Jonathan Sikking, Matthew Sikking (Fiancé Julie Beckham), Chris McKearney, Ned McKearney, Josh McKearney, Lyra Newsome, Ruby Russ and Cindy Russ.
