Henry F. Beistel, one of 6 brothers who served in the Union armies during the Civil War and an industrious farmer of Mt. Pleasant township, was born in Donegal township, Westmoreland County, PA, Feb. 22, 1835 and is a son of John and Mary (Fultz) Beistel. On September 20, 1860, he married Nancy Evans, a daughter of William and Ann Mariah (Adams) Evans, of Mt. Pleasant township. Henry and Nancy Beistel had 10 children.
