He was married to Ella F. Wightman who was born in November 1852 and died about 1916 in Constantia, New York. Ella was the daughter of Ashur and Emeline E. (Richardson) Wightman.

DEATH OF DAVID R. ACKLEY
The death of David Richards Ackley occurred Friday night, shortly before 12 ;'clock of a complication of diseases in the 55th year of his age, after and illness of three weeks. David R. was the son of David P and Becky Maria Crim Ackley and was born in the town of Parish December 17, 1845, and was one of eight children and had always resided here. His boyhood days were spent upon his father's farm. At the age of 14 he commenced teaming barrels to Syracuse, which was then a leading industry, and followed that business for a number of years. He relinquished teaming and entered into a co-partnership with his brother, Philip and they conducted a saw mill in the East part of the town for several years. Upon retiring from the mill he engaged in farming.
He was married in the year 1876 to Miss Ella F Wightman of Parish who survives him. About 13 years ago he removed to this village and engaged in the livery business with his brother Philip, and which they conducted for over five years. After selling the livery they purchased the Commercial House and conducted it until three years ago when Mr. Ackley purchased his brother's interest and thereafter ran the business alone. Mr. Ackley was a whole souled man, and was a genial and obliging neighbor, always having a pleasant word for everyone. He was generous to a fault and never turned a deaf ear to anyone in distress and never refused a friend a favor if it was in his power to grant it. He was deservedly popular with the traveling public and had a bright and cheering greeting for all. He had an extensive acquaintance throughout this section of the county and his many friends learn with regret of his demise.
Besides his widow he is survived an aged father; two brothers Philip H of Williamstown and Frank who resides upon the old homestead; also three sisters, Mr. Henry McLymond of Central Square, Mrs. Delia Crandell of Collomer and Mrs. Irving Sherman of Pulaski. The funeral was held Monday from his late residence at 2 o'clock and was largely attended. Interment was made in Pleasant Lawn Cemetery. The bearers were C S Tallcott, D J Wilson, J M Moore, A Petrie, J M Barton and L D Joslyn
