William Clyde "Sleepy" Powell, 78, of Taylorsville passed away Monday, December 1, 2008, at Emory University Hospital.
Born October 21, 1930, he was the son of the late Thomas Larkin Powell and Mattie Elizabeth Free Powell. Mr. Powell worked with road maintenance for Bartow County before his retirement. He attended Mt. Tabor Baptist Church and enjoyed fishing, baseball and NASCAR racing.
Preceding him in death are his parents; siblings, Christine Powell, Vesta Yancey, Frances Massey, Thomas Isaiah Powell, Dorothy Sanford, Myrtice Blankenship, and Bernice Williams.
Survivors include his wife of 58 years, Doris Sutton Powell of Taylorsville; his daughter and son-in-law, Brenda and Lamar Tilley of Taylorsville; his son and daughter-in-law, Melvin and Judy Powell of Taylorsville; his grandchildren, Brian Tilley and his fiance, Emma Godfrey of Euharlee, Tina and Ricky MacFarland of Taylorsville, Rodney Powell of Georgia, Kimberly and Michael Howell of Cartersville, and Kevin and Amy Powell of Taylorsville; his great-grandchildren, Peyton Godfrey, Haley Godfrey, Amanda Morris, Justin Howell, Hayley Howell, Melissa Howell, and Chelsea Powell; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, December 4, 2008, in the chapel of Parnick Jennings Funeral Home and Cremation Services with Rev. Josh Cowart officiating.
Burial will follow in Floyd Creek Baptist Church Cemetery.
Serving as pallbearers will be J.E. "Cubby" Powell, David Williams, Kenneth Sanford, Ronnie Sanford, Randall Brown, Jeff Cornwell, Dewayne Sutton, and Everett Sutton.
