HAWKINS MARTINSVILLE, VA - E. Beverly (E.B.) Hawkins, age 88, of 1230 Ranson Road, Martins-ville, died Sunday, January 2, 2011, in Memorial Hospital of Martinsville and Henry County. Born September 5, 1922, in Sandy Ridge, NC, he was a son of the late J. Moir Hawkins and Allie Gann Hawkins. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife of 60 years, Virginia Wilson Hawkins, a brother Ivan Hawkins, and a sister Ernestine Chapman. E.B. was a graduate of Sandy Ridge High School and attended Perry Business School in Martinsville. He was retired from Building Supply Company and formerly worked for Martinsville Concrete Products. He was a long time member and past treasurer of Starling Avenue Baptist Church, a member of and past president of the Martinsville Exchange Club receiving their Book of Golden Deeds in 2004 for his years of community service. E.B. was a veteran of the U. S. Army serving in the 35th Infantry Division in Europe during World War II, and with the 2nd Logistical command during the Korean War from 1950-51. Surviving are his daughter Gloria Hawkins Weaver, two grandsons, Brian Weaver and his wife Sandy, Travis Weaver and his fiancee Teresa Stallard, two great-grandsons, Josh and Daniel Greer, all of Martinsville, a brother Waldo Hawkins and a sister Madeline Joyce, both of Sandy Ridge, NC, and several nieces and nephews. The funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, January 6, 2011, at Starling Avenue Baptist Church with Dr. David Adkins officiating. Entombment will follow in the Sanctuary of Hope in Roselawn Burial Park, Martinsville, VA.
