HAWKINS MARTINSVILLE, VA - E. Beverly (E.B.) Hawkins, age 88, of 1230 Ranson Road, Martins-ville, died Sunday, January 2, 2011, in Memorial Hospital of Martinsville and Henry County. Born September 5, 1922, in Sandy Ridge, NC, he was a son of the late J. Moir Hawkins and Allie Gann Hawkins. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife of 60 years, Virginia Wilson Hawkins, a brother Ivan Hawkins, and a sister Ernestine Chapman. E.B. was a graduate of Sandy Ridge High School and attended Perry Business School in Martinsville. He was retired from Building Supply Company and formerly worked for Martinsville Concrete Products. He was a long time member and past treasurer of Starling Avenue Baptist Church, a member of and past president of the Martinsville Exchange Club receiving their Book of Golden Deeds in 2004 for his years of community service. E.B. was a veteran of the U. S. Army serving in the 35th Infantry Division in Europe during World War II, and with the 2nd Logistical command during the Korean War from 1950-51. Surviving are his daughter Gloria Hawkins Weaver, two grandsons, Brian Weaver and his wife Sandy, Travis Weaver and his fiancee Teresa Stallard, two great-grandsons, Josh and Daniel Greer, all of Martinsville, a brother Waldo Hawkins and a sister Madeline Joyce, both of Sandy Ridge, NC, and several nieces and nephews. The funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, January 6, 2011, at Starling Avenue Baptist Church with Dr. David Adkins officiating. Entombment will follow in the Sanctuary of Hope in Roselawn Burial Park, Martinsville, VA. Memorial contributions may be made to Starling Avenue Baptist Church, 932 Starling Ave., Martinsville, VA, 24112.
