NEWSPAPER ARTICLE - 1915
Last Friday, Feb. 19th, Mrs. Leonard Whitmeyer had a birthday anniversary. Little did she think that the knowledge of the fact had become known through one of her friends, who seems to have a wonderful memory for birthdays. No sooner was it known that the senior member of the Ladies Society of the Reformed Church would be 70 years old, than the ladies of that society "got busy" and arranged for a birthday party. Mrs. Whitmeyer is not only the oldest member of this society but for years has been one of the most faithful workers. Many an hour, many a day she spent at home "getting work ready" for the society to complete.
No one needed a second invitation, everyone of the members were present except two, who could not be there. In all 48 guests set down to the table when the bountiful lunch was served from the baskets the ladies had brought.
Mrs. Reischke, from Nevada, was an honor guest. Thus the afternoon was spent very profitably to all present. Mrs. Whitmeyer was so surprised that for a long time she could not control her emotions. The ladies of her society wish her many days of blessing in the future.
