He was born on Jan. 7, 1925, in Lowell, to William Phillip Sr. and Amelia Margaret Schwendeman Engle. Bill was a 1942 graduate of Lowell High School, and was married in a double wedding ceremony to Eileen Frances Potter on Sept. 23, 1948, at St. Mary Catholic Church in Marietta. Over the years, he was employed by the U.S. Farm Bureau, Greenleaves Construction, Marietta Wilbert Vault Company, Carr Concrete, and the Senior Program Wayne National Forest. Bill was a member of Our Lady of Mercy Catholic Church in Lowell.
He is survived by his children, Chris Engle (Jill) of Mainesville, Ohio, Pat Engle (Sharon) of Fleming, Marie Miller (Paul) of New Concord, Ohio, Julia Engle of Williamstown, Angela Keiser (Steve) of Vienna, W.Va., Kathleen Hall (Chris) of Reno, Ohio; 10 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; siblings, Charles Engle (Martha), Bernard Engle (Sonia), both of Vera Beach, Fla., Marcie Williams (Floyd) of Vienna, Va., Zita Izzo (Joe) of Wilson, Wyo., and Jim Engle (Carolyn), Pataskala, Ohio; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife on Sept. 12, 2011; and siblings, Slyvan, Glenn, Sister Beatrice Engle, Marion Hoffert, Jean Glover and Monica Hoffert.
Funeral Liturgy with Mass will be held at 10 a.m. on Tuesday (Aug. 14, 2012) at Our Lady of Mercy Catholic Church, with the Rev. Timothy Shannon celebrating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Visitation will be from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. today at the Lowell Chapel of Cawley & Peoples Funeral Home, with a vigil service and rosary being held at 7:30 p.m.
