Yates, Mabel A. b. Oct. 19, 1883
DEAD. Again the swift winged messenger of death has visited the Yates family, this time to claim little Mable, oldest child of S. H. and Estella Yates. Less than a year ago the father answered the summons of the death angel. A few weeks ago the mother was called away, and the three children were orphans. Little May missed her mother sadly. During her illness of five weeks she was very patient, never expressed a desire to get well; told them over and again that she was going to heaven. A little while before she died, she looked up, put out her little hands and said, "There's Mamma! There's Mamma!" who shall say that the spirit of the angel mother did not come to meet that of her darling, to guide it home. May, was a lovely child, very bright and intelligent, a general favorite, loved by all who knew her. All that anxious hearts and loving hands could do was done for her comfort, but she longed to go home; death was not unwelcome to her. The funeral services were conducted by Rev. Dazey, from Job 14:1-2 "Man born of woman is of a few days and full of truble , he cometh forth as a flower and is cut down." Only seven summers, was this rare sweet blossom permitted to bloom on earth. God saw fit to transplant it into the angels garden, safe from the storms, safe from the dangers of this life. Mr. and Mrs. Demaree over whose home the shadow of this great sorrow has fallen, have the sympathy of all. They had fondly hoped to be permitted to keep the little darling and raise her as their own, but she was not for them, not for them, not for earth, and dear old grandma, who feels that these many affiliations are almost more than she can bear, says her comfort is in the thought, that the separation will not be long, for she is listening for the call to come home. Yes grandma, soon you shall all be visited in that land where the surges cease to roll.
