James P. Boyle enlisted in the United States Army on 7 December 1874 in Boston, Massachusetts, and served as a Private in Company G of the Seventh Regiment of Cavalry. He participated in the Battle of the Little Bighorn and was wounded in the back during the hilltop fight. He never married. He worked as an orderly at St. Alexius Hospital in Bismarck from 1902 until his death. He was buried on September 14, 1920. His obituary appeared in The Bismarck Tribune on September 3, 1920. Parents: James and Mary Boyle. He had a step-mother, Bridget McDermott, who had seven children, his half brothers and sisters. [Contributed by Charlott Jones.]
