Enos Holmes, the son of Jacob Holmes and Elizabeth Huff was born of Scotch descent on Dec 6, 1791 in Wellsburg, W.VA. In 1795 his family moved to Adena, Jefferson Co., Ohio, and here he married Mary "Polly" Wilkin on June 5, 1811. Together they had twelve children.

They lived in Carroll Co., Ohio before moving to Pleasant Township, Hardin co., Ohio in 1838. Here he received his license to perform marriages as an Ordained minister of the Methodist Episcopal Church.

The 1850 and 1860 census records show him as a farmer. He died in 1868.
