Ivan W. Waldo, 72, of 1912 N. Custer, died Saturday at a local hospital. Services will be 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at Calvary Lutheran Church with the Rev. E. W. Haygeman officiating. Burial will be in the Westlawn Cemetery.

Mr. Waldo was born Dec. 13, 1910, at Jefferson, Iowa, to A. E. and Rosy Hammack Waldo. He received his education in the Jefferson, Iowa schools and graduated with the class of 1929. He taught in the Kendrick Township School for two years and then taught in the Grand Township School. He came to Grand Island in 1932 and attended Grand Island Business College through 1934. He married Geraldine E. Bowser on May 31, 1935. He worked for the Union Pacific Railroad from 1935-37. He also worked for the U. S. Forest Service for a short time. Mr. Waldo then began working for the U.S. Postal Service in Grand Island and remained there until his retirement on June 30, 1973. For the last 3 1/2 years of his employment he was a rural mail carrier for Rt. 3. He married Frances Schimmer on Aug. 7, 1965, in Grand Island. He was a charter member of Calvary Lutheran Church, affiliated with Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie No. 378, the Elks and the UCT.

He is survived by his wife, Frances; two daughters, Mrs. Beverly Jean Fuehrer and Mrs. Mary Patricia McGeorge, both of Omaha; two step-children, Richard Schimmer of Long Beach, Calif., and Mrs. Beverly Wallace of Cypris, Calif.; 10 grandchildren; a brother, Wayne Waldo of Grand Island; a sister, Mrs. Winnie Davis of Grand Island. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Geraldine and three infant children.
