W. W. Steven, after having spent his entire life in Wheaton, died at his home, 423 West Front street, last Friday, March 20, 1931, after a long illness dating from the tragic death of his son Wallace in a grade crossing accident in 1927. Mr. Steven was well known, not only in Wheaton, but thruout this part of the state.

He was born January 21, 1853, at Pleasant Hill, three miles north of Wheaton the son of Alexander Steven, who had come to this country from Scotland in the '40s. He attend Wheaton college.

Mr. Steven established a real estate and insurance business about 40 years ago with offices in the Secker block. He retired from active participation in business affairs in 1928. He was a member of the DuPage county board of supervisors continuously for a period of thirty years and he served Wheaton as postmaster from 1910 to 1914. Illinois republicans knew him well as a member of the state central committee for many years.

During his years in business life in Wheaton Mr. Steven was vitally interested in the affairs of the city, taking a large part in the projects of the Business Men's association and other civic betterment plans. Where help of any kind was needed there was Mr. Steven to be found.

He was married first to Miss Kittie Green, of New York, who died in 1905. In 1909 he was married to Miss Violet Tweedie, who survives with two daughters, Mirth and Rosemary. Two sons, Wallace and Donald, preceded their father in death.

The funeral services were held at Kampp's chapel Sunday afternoon. The Rev. F.H. Millett of the Episcopal church and the Rev. H. V. Holt former pastor of the Methodist church conducted the service. Pallbearers were N. E. Matter, W. A. Gamon, F. J. Knight of Aurora, L. C. Thompson, Charles W. Hadley and W. V. Hopf.
