Mrs. Jane R. Steadham filed for her widow's pension while living at Newcastle, Texas in 1913. At the time, she was 84 years of age and states that she was born in Wilkes County, Georgia. Mrs. Steadham mentioned that she had lived in Texas for 62 years. She was living in Newcastle, Texas and moved to Young County 35 years age. The only thing she knew of her husband's service in the Confederate Army was that D.H. Hagler was Captain of the command and he was in the Cavalry.

W.A. Morris living at Montague County, Texas stated that he had known John Edward Steadham since 1860. That John E. Steadham enlisted in the Confederate Service on 8 January 1862 (Muster Roll Index Card says 8 November 1862) at Montague County, Texas, in Capt. D.S. Hagler's Company, which was attached to the 14th Texas Regiment and served in that company until summer of 1862, when he received an honorable discharge.

B.H. Steadham, a son, stated that his father enlisted in the Confederate Service on 8 January 1862, in Montague County, Texas in Company F, 14th Regiment (Capt. D.S. Hagler's company) and served in that company until the summer of 1862 when he was honorably discharged. B.H. Hannah Jane Steadham, daughter of John Edward Steadham and Jane Rebecca Jones, was born about 1857 in Wise County, Texas. She married Judson Alexander Medley, son of Dr George W Medley and Martha Catherine McFadden, on 20 June 1875 in Cooke County, Texas. They had at least 6 children. Judson died 19 November 1930 in Stephens County, Oklahoma. He is buried in Old Fairlawn Cemetery in Comanche (as is his father) but no headstone photos have been taken. In 1940 Hannah was living with her eldest daughter, Hattie Lee Medley Littrell, in Comanche. Her age is listed as 83. I have not discovered when and where she died.
I welcome corrections and additions from any Medley/Steadham/Littrell researchers!

Son of Benjamin F. Steadham and Elizabeth Welch (Rodney Welch).
