Curtis L. "Shorty" Cummins Sr., 86, of Ettrick, died Monday, Nov. 2, 2009, at Southside Regional Medical Center. He was the son of the late William S. and Annabelle Cummins and the widower of Rose E. Cummins, and was preceded in death by a brother, Randolph Cummins, and a sister, Catherine Cummins Quicke.
Mr. Cummins was the former owner of Shorty's Ice Cream for 40 years and the owner of Pickwick Laundromat for 31 years. He is survived by his three sons, Curtis L. Cummins Jr., and wife, Gay of Alabama, William J. Cummins of Washington D.C., and Mark W. Cummins and wife, Cindy of Colonial Heights; his daughter, Susan R. Bjorklund and husband, Kurt of Minnesota; seven grandchildren, Amy Daly and husband, Ryan, Jonathan Cummins and wife, Arielle, Joey Cummins and wife, Danielle, Jenny Bryant, Natalie, Niklas, and Peder Bjorklund; two great-grandchildren, Emma Rose Daly and Lillian Campbell Daly; two caregivers, Nancy Lewis and Tony Goode.
A graveside funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, Nov. 6, 2009, at Southlawn Memorial Park, Prince George. The family will receive friends Thursday, Nov. 5, 2009 from 7-8:30 p.m. at the Colonial Heights Chapel of E. Alvin Small Funeral Homes and Crematory, 2033 Boulevard, 23834.
