ROLAND ZIRBEL

Roland R. Zirbel, age 86, died Sunday, Jan. 14, 2007, at his home in Manitowoc
after a brief illness.
Roland was born March 27, 1920, in the town of Glenmore, son of the late Alex
and Hattie Hallfrisch Zirbel. He married Mildred Becker on April 15, 1944, at
St. John's Lutheran Church in Maribel. She preceded him in death on Sept. 5,
2000. Roland farmed in the Maribel area until 1967, at which time Roland and
Mildred moved to Manitowoc. Roland worked at Burger Boat as a finish carpenter
until his retirement in 1985. Roland was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church.
He enjoyed woodworking, fishing, mosaics, and his yard sales.
Survivors include his five daughters and their husbands: Joan and Don Pahl of
Maribel and their children: Julie and Rex Redmon of West Bend; Jeffrey and Kim
Pahl of Newton; Suzanne Diestler of Hartford and her children: April Russ of
Rochester, Minn.; Audrey and Curtis Hornada of Hutisford; Shirley and Carl
Kreie of Manitowoc and their daughter: Kristy Kreie of Manitowoc; Laurel and
Daniel Fagan of Manitowoc and their children: Alison and Jonathan Henson of
Austin, Minn.; Patricia Fagan of Manitowoc; Thomas Fagan of Manitowoc; Anne and
Russell Vogt of Manitowoc and their children: Amanda and Bjorn Hansen of
Manitowoc; Jonah Vogt of Milwaukee; Liesl Vogt and Josiah Vogt, both of Manitowoc;
nine great-grandchildren: Rachel Redmon; Cyana, Rilend and Rayna Russ; Fiona and
Quinten Hornada; Dakota Fagan; Kira and Logan Hansen; one brother and sister-in-
law: Gerhold and Laverne Zirbel of Shirley; three sisters: Cora Lemke of Sobieski;
Helen Saenger of De Pere; Marie Meyer of Sun Prairie; two brothers-in-law and
sister-in-law: Harvey and Verna Becker of Maribel; Elroy Lemke of Greenleaf;
nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends also survive.
Roland was preceded in death by his wife: Mildred; one son-in-law: Louis Diestler;
twin grandsons; four brothers: Walter, Robert, Henry and Elmer; one sister:
Mildred Wegner; four brothers-in-law: Alfred Lemke; Kenneth Saenger; Richard
Meyer; and Alvin Wegner; two sisters-in-law: Esther Zirbel and Eugenia Zirbel.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, Jan. 19, 2007, at Immanuel
Evangelical Lutheran Church, 916 Pine St., Manitowoc. The Rev. Paul Schossow will
officiate with burial to follow at Evergreen Cemetery. Relatives and friends may
call at Immanuel Evangelical Lutheran Church on Friday from 9 a.m. until the time
of service at 11 a.m.
Memorial donations would be appreciated for Immanuel Evangelical Lutheran Church
or Manitowoc Lutheran High School.
