Drowning Death Will Be Probed
A further investigation is planned into the drowning death of Geraldine Zahorik,
7, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Daniel C. Zahorik of 2222 Waldo Blvd.
The girl was reported missing from her home at 7:30 p.m. Thursday and her body
was recovered around 2:40 p.m. Friday in the Manitowoc River off Manitou Park.
Dr. Theodore A. Teitgen, Manitowoc County coroner, said Saturday morning that
after checking the body he could not find any bruises which could have indicated
foul play in the death of the youngster. He indicated that a red colored area
near her nose was due to stomach gases.
Accidental Death
Coroner Teitgen ruled the girl drowned from accidental causes and did not call
for an autopsy. Mr. and Mrs. Zahorik agreed with his decision but the coroner
and the Manitowoc Police Dept. are planning a further investigation into
Geraldine’s death.

Geraldine was born Sept. 9, 1961, at Manitowoc, daughter of Daniel C. and Doris A.
Frebinberg Zahorik. She would have been a third grade student at Andrew Jackson
School in fall.
Surviving in addition to the parents are a brother and two sisters (private), and
paternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Adolph Zahorik, of Manitowoc.
Private funeral services will be at 9 a.m. Monday at Pfeffer Funeral Home and at
9:30 a.m. at Holy Innocents Catholic Church. The Rev. Leo Schmitt will officiate
at Mass of the Angels and burial will be in Evergreen cemetery.
There will be no visitation.
