Mercedes E. Zahn, age 80, formerly of 1421 N. Fifth St., died Tuesday, April 5,
2005 at River's Bend Health & Rehabilitation Center, Manitowoc.
Mercedes was born April 10, 1924 at Marinette, daughter of the late Rubert and
Josephine Boucher. She grew up and was educated at Manitowoc and attended Lincoln
High School. On Nov. 20, 1941, she married William E. Zahn. William preceded her
in death Sept. 28, 1991. They celebrated 49 years together. Mercedes was involved
in the family business, Zahn's Radiator, retiring in 1986. Mercedes was a member
of First Presbyterian Church and served as a Deacon, VFW Otto Oas Post #659
Auxiliary and American Legion Drews-Bleser Post #88 Auxiliary. She volunteered at
Memorial Hospital as a Candy Striper and served meals at Manitou Manor. Mercedes
enjoyed her family, golf, bowling, playing games and loved animals, especially
cats and dogs.
Mercedes is survived by her children: William R. (Joyce) Zahn, Seymour; Judith Ann
(Philip J.) Kinzel, Manitowoc; grandchildren include: Nathan (Beth) Kinzel,
Reedsville; Jessica (Ken) Schneiter, Bend, Ore.; Andrea (Dan) Hinderaker, Minneapolis,
Minn.; Catherine (Rob) Rydzewski, Seymour; Michael (Shanna) Zahn, Little Suamico;
Jennifer Jo (Zak) Shimanski, Minneapolis, Minn.; great-grandchildren include: Philip
Kinzel, Chloe Ann Hinderaker, Ella Mercedes Hinderaker, Will Rydzewski, John
Rydzewski and Noah Rydzewski; Eli Shimanski; sister-in-law: Bettey Landon, Glenview,
Ill.; brother-in-law: Jack (Sharon) Zahn, Appleton; nieces, nephews, other relatives
and friends. Mercedes was preceded in death by her brother: Donald O. Boucher.
Memorial funeral services will be held at 4 p.m. Sunday, April 10, 2005 at the
First Presbyterian Church, 502 N. Eighth St., Manitowoc. The Rev. Chris Schwab will
officiate. Relatives and friends may call after 3 p.m. Sunday until the time of
service at 4 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, memorials to the First Presbyterian Church, Lakeshore Humane
Society or the donor's choice would be appreciated.
