Albert G. (sic) Worel Dies; Had Been Ill Since April
Was Engaged In Hardware Business Over 50 Years
Albert G. Worel, 72, 709 State street, engaged in the hardware business in
this city for more than 50 years, died shortly before noon today at the Holy
Family hospital. He had been seriously ill since early in April.
At the time of his death Mr. Worel headed the Worel Hardware company, 205
North Eighth street, which he operated with his two sons, Reginald and Chester.
Funeral plans are incomplete but services will be held from the First Presbyterian
church, in which Mr. Worel was active for many years.
Born in Kossuth
Born in Kossuth in 1871, Mr. Worel came to this city when a young man and learned
the hardware trade. He formed a partnership with Frank Zeman to take over the Rand
and Roemer Hardware business at Eighth and York streets, under the name of the
Worel and Zeman company. Later a third partner was taken into the business, the
late Jacob Stangel, and the firm became the Worel, Zeman and Stangel company.
In 1918 Mr. Worel took over the business alone under the name of the Worel Hardware
company and later his two sons became associated with him.
During his active membership in the First Presbyterian church Mr. Worel served
several years as a trustee and elder.
In 1891 Mr. Worel married Miss Anna G. Gruber. She survives with two sons, Reginald
and Chester, of this city; daughter, Mrs. Walter Weber, of this city; brother, John,
of New Buffalo; two sisters, Mrs. Joseph Ziman, Grand Haven, Mich., and Mrs. Kate
Budlow, Seattle, Wash.

Funeral services for Albert G. Worel, 72, veteran hardware merchant who died Monday
noon, will be held Wednesday at 2 p.m. from the First Presbyterian church. The Rev.
C. H. Phipps will officiate. Interment will be in Evergreen cemetery.
The body may be viewed at the Shimek and Schwartz funeral home from 7 o’clock tonight
until Wednesday at 10 a.m. when it will be moved to the church to lie in state until
the hour of the services.
Survivors include the widow, two sons, a daughter, brother, two sisters, and eight
grandchildren.
