ARTHUR M. WIGEN

Arthur M. Wigen, 77, of 733 S. 19th St., Manitowoc, died Saturday evening at
Holy Family Hospital, Manitowoc, where he had been a patient several months.
Funeral services will be at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at First Lutheran Church, Manitowoc.
The Rev. Vernon Anderson will officiate and burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery.
Mr. Wigen was born Dec. 10, 1889, at Northwood, Iowa, son of the late Knut and
Bertha Torrison Wigen. He came to Manitowoc with his family at the age of nine
and settled on a farm at Manitowoc Rapids. In 1909, he was graduated from Manitowoc
Teachers College and taught school at Osman for several years. He was a corporal
in Co. B of the 58th Infantry which served in France and Germany during World War
I from Nov. 17, 1918, to Aug. 8, 1919. After his discharge in 1920, he married Hilda
Willert at Manitowoc. He was employed by the Chicago North Western Railroad for a
short period and at Mirro Aluminum Co., Manitowoc, for 35 years, retiring in 1955.
He was an active church member and served as Sunday School supervisor. He was also
active in the Men's Lutheran Brotherhood of the church and also a member of the
American Legion, Drews – Bleser Post 88.
He is survived by his wife, a son, Howard, and a daughter, Mrs. Otto (Lois) Bruns,
of Manitowoc, a brother, Kingsley, of Delton, Mich., and six grandchildren.
Friends may call at Urbanek and Schlei Funeral Home, Manitowoc, until noon Tuesday
when the casket will be moved to the church where the body will lie in state until
time of service. The Men's Brotherhood will have a prayer service at 9 o'clock this
Monday evening at the funeral home.
