MOSES TUFTS
DIED.
At his home in Manitowoc Rapids. July 2, 1886, Moses Tufts in the
87th. year of his age.
Deceased was born Oct. 16th. 1799, in Dromore Parish, County Down,
in the North of Ireland. He emigrated to St. James, New Brunswick
with his wife and one child in 1822 and in 1850 came to Manitowoc
Co. with his wife and seven children, three of whom still survive
him. His first wife died in 1865 and in 1873 he married again. He
leaves a widow, three children, one hundred and two grand children,
fifty-eight great-grandchildren, a total of 167 direct descendants.
Mr. Tufts was a strong, rugged man, of iron constitution and with
his family did a full share of the hard pioneer work of our county.
He had the respect and esteem of all the old settlers to whom he was
well known. He died at last from no special disease but from sheer
weakness incident to old age. He was buried on Sunday afternoon.
