Anton Thompson, 87, of 520 N. 1131 St., Wauwatosa, and formerly of Manitowoc, died at 1 p.m. Saturday at a Milwaukee hospital after an illness of one year. Graveside funeral services with family prayers will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Evergreen Cemetery, Manitowoc.
Mr. Thompson was born April 29, 1874, at Valders, son of the late John and Gertrude Skatrud Thompson. He attended Valders schools and was a salesman for many years for Plumb and Nelson Wholesale Grocery Co. of Manitowoc.
He married Helen McCabe May 27, 1900, at Menasha, and they resided at Manitowoc until 1950, when he moved to Milwaukee. Prior to his retirement at 65 years of age he also was employed as a salesman for Schultz Brothers Wholesale Grocery Co. of Sheboygan. His wife preceded him in death in 1950. A charter member of the United Commercial Travelers of Manitowoc, Thompson was honored in 1953 for 50 years membership in Manitowoc Council 232. He was living at Milwaukee at the time but continued his membership.
Survivors include a son, Austin of Chicago; six daughters, Mrs. Ruth Dodge Schwarz of Lincoln, Neb., Mrs. Norma Dolan of Milwaukee, Mrs. Grace Welnzier of Oshkosh, Mrs. Joseph Blake of Santa Barbara, Calif., Mrs. Patricia Higgins of Wauwatosa and Betty of Wauwatosa; a brother, Peter of Crandon, Forest County; a sister, Mrs. Jenny LeHay of Daggett, Mich., five grandsons and one great grandson. Friends may call at Brett Funeral Home, 2001 W. Wisconsin Ave., Milwaukee, until 11:30 a.m. Tuesday when the body will be moved to Manitowoc.
