ROBERT P. SULLIVAN

Robert P. "Sully" Sullivan, age 85, of 4927 River Heights Drive,
Manitowoc, passed away Thursday evening, April 12, 2007, at Harbor
House, Menasha Avenue Site, Manitowoc.
He was born July 1, 1921, in St. Paul, Minn., son of the late Daniel
and Joan (Tierney) Sullivan. Robert attended grade school in Ojibwa
and graduated from Hayward High School, Hayward. He then attended and
graduated from the University of Wisconsin- Madison in 1943. On Nov. 20,
1943, he married the former Joan Carey at Holy Innocents Catholic Church,
Manitowoc. At Madison he was captain of the baseball team and he played
on Wisconsin's only national basketball championship team in 1941. In
1943, Sully was voted the most valuable player on the basketball team.
After graduation, Sully joined the Navy where he served two years as a
lieutenant in the South Pacific. Sports had always been a dominate factor
in Sully's life. He played pro basketball with the Oshkosh All Stars for
five years and played pro baseball with the Dayton Baseball Club, Dayton,
Ohio. He was also an avid golfer. In 1979, he was enshrined into the
Lakeshore All Sports Hall of Fame. In 1948, he went to work at Hamilton
Industries, where he was employed for 39 years until his retirement.
Sully was a past member of the Manitowoc Elks, Manitowoc Yacht Club and
Branch River Country Club.

He was preceded in death by two brothers: Jack and Jim Sullivan.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, April 18, 2007, at
St. Francis of Assisi on Waldo Blvd., Manitowoc. Officiating at the Mass
of Christian Burial will be the Rev. Monsignor James Vanden Hogen with
burial of the cremated remains at Evergreen Cemetery, Manitowoc.
The family will greet relatives and friends at St. Francis of Assisi on
Waldo, Manitowoc, from 9 a.m. Wednesday, April 18, 2007, until the time
of service at 11 a.m.
Memorials may be made to Lakeshore Humane Society or charity of choice.
The Pfeffer Funeral Home & Cremation Care Center, Manitowoc, is assisting
the family with funeral arrangements.
The family wishes to thank the entire staff of Harbor House, Menasha Avenue
Site, for their compassionate care given to Sully this past year.
